Genesee Habitat Press Release – “Almost Home” Program & Townhomes Ribbon Cutting

FLINT, Mich. (April 6, 2021)— Genesee County Habitat for Humanity (Genesee Habitat), is proud to announce a Ribbon Cutting to be held on April 30, 2021 at 3:30 pm at 315 Sylvan Court in Flint, Michigan, announcing the completion of the townhomes and launching the “Almost Home” program.

Genesee Habitat is one of only a few of the 1200 affiliates nationwide approved for the program. “Almost Home” serves as a safe, affordable living option for families in queue for a Habitat home. The recently completed townhomes on Sylvan Court will serve as housing for the program.

Genesee Habitat was formed with the idea that everyone deserves a decent place to live and builds 6-10 new Habitat homes in Genesee County per year. As active participants in building a better future for themselves and their families, qualified Habitat homeowner partners must meet certain criteria: be in need of better housing, be willing to partner with Habitat in the form of “sweat equity”, and be able to afford an affordable mortgage.

“Many of our homeowner partner families in queue for a Habitat home are currently living in unsafe, overcrowded conditions with unaffordable rent” notes Thomas Hutchison, executive director of Genesee Habitat. “With the ‘Almost Home’ program, our homeowner partners will have the option of a healthy, affordable living situation while their home is being built. Additionally, with ‘Almost Home’s’ affordable rent, they will also have the opportunity to strengthen their finances, further ensuring their future success as homeowners.”
