INSIDER INFORMATION!!!
Many Flint residents are less than pleased with their property assessments. If you plan to contest your assessment before the tax tribunal, here are some things you need to know.
Assessments are based not only on your property, but your neighbor’s as well. In real estate terms “comparables,” also known as “comps.” So you may want to speak to your neighbors and ask what their assessments are. Very often houses in a neighborhood are very similar and should be assessed similarly. Additionally, if you plan on appealing based on lead levels YOU MUST have your water tested. They’re not going to just take your word for it. Also, you’ll need to have your neighbors have their water tested too. The tribunal will be looking at “comps” there too. You’ll be helping each other out as well. Forewarned is prepared.
