LANSING, MICH. – Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued a proclamation declaring September 15 – October 15, 2019 as Hispanic Heritage Month.
“I am proud to be a part of such a diverse state where we celebrate the heritage of communities across Michigan,” said Whitmer. “During this month I hope we all take the time to recognize the incredible impact the Hispanic community has had on our state and nation.”
Michigan includes a large concentration of residents of Spanish and Latin American decent who contribute to the economy and culture that makes Michigan a great place to live. During this month, the Hispanic American community will celebrate through a series of special events featuring Hispanic history, food, dance, and art celebrating the rich tradition and many contributions made to the state of Michigan.
