Rep. Kildee Announces $380,000 Investment to Support Tourism and Economic Development in Saginaw County

Funding Awarded to Great Lakes Bay Region Quality of Life Council and Great Lakes Bay Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau

WASHINGTON—Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today announced a $380,000 federal investment, through the Great Lakes Bay Region Quality of Life Council and the Great Lakes Bay Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau, to assist with developing a plan to help the tourism industry in the region recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funding, through the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), provides grants and technical assistance to create employment opportunities, help retain existing jobs and stimulate economic growth through investments. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which Congressman Kildee helped pass, provided the EDA with $1.5 billion for economic development assistance programs to help communities recover to the pandemic.

“Tourism plays a big role in Michigan’s economy. We must do everything we can to propel our state’s economic recovery and support jobs in the tourism industry. The tourism industry has suffered greatly over the past year and I’m pleased to announce this federal award to support the Great Lakes Bay Region,” Congressman Kildee said.

Congressman Kildee has supported various pieces of legislation to provide economic relief to Michigan families, seniors and small businesses during the pandemic:
