Lead and Copper Rule Hearing Follow up

Hello everyone!! Thank you again for joining Flint Rising in our training for the Michigan Lead and Copper Rule revision process as well as our bus adventure to the hearing in Lansing. Just a reminder that all written comments and statements are due through email or on the DEQ’s desk by 5:00 pm on March 21st, next Wednesday. I would mail letters out by Friday. Definitely do not wait until the last minute. I am attaching some draft materials, comments by our workgroup and the DEQ’s slide presentation from the public hearing that may help you write your comments.

The address to email your comments to is DEQ-LCR-Comments@michigan.gov and the physical address to mail letters or to fax comments is is:

Drinking Water and Municipal Assistance Division
Michigan Department of Environmental Quality
(Attention: Suzann Ruch)
P.O. Box 30817
Lansing, Michigan 48909-8311
Phone: 517-284-6544
Fax: 517-241-1328

Also, here is a link to the article where Cyndi Roper from the Natural Resources Defense Council highlighted major issues of concern: https://www.nrdc.org/experts/cyndi-roper/will-michigan-lead-getting-lead-out-drinking-water

If you would like to read through the draft again, here is a direct link to the draft language: http://dmbinternet.state.mi.us/DMB/ORRDocs/ORR/1684_2017-008EQ_orr-draft.pdf

The next steps once the public comment closes on March 21st are:
-Address public comment and submit final draft rules to ORR
-Rules submitted to Joint Committee on Administrative Rules who will review them and approve them or submit revisions

If the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules sends the draft back to the MDEQ with suggested revisions, we will go through the draft and public comment period again. We will keep you updated on the progress.

Good Luck and keep an eye on your emails and texts for actions we are planning as this process moves along!
