The Dayton Family Teams Up With Flint City Pop Up on Father’s Day
Organization Partners with Flint-based Rappers to Feed Families on Holiday
(Flint, Mich.)- The Flint City Pop Up Help Tent group is joining forces with the Flint-based rap group, The Dayton Family, on Father’ s Day to make a difference in the lives of residents. The group will be setting up their tent and will be providing a meal to people in the city to celebrate the holiday. The goal is to feed 120 to 150 people on Sunday, June 17 at 5 p.m. at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Leith Street.
Flint City Pop Up Help Tent has been hosting events through the city this year. Each event is designed to provide food and other necessities to the city’s most needy residents. Shannon “Shorty” Earl, the leader of Flint City Pop Up Help Tent, said, “We want people to know they’re not alone, someone in this sometimes cruel world does care about them and yes we ALL matter.”
Best known for their debut album ‘What’s on My Mind?’ with the Flint anthem ‘Flint Town’, The Dayton Family is made up of three artists from Flint; Matt Hinkle aka “Backstabba”, Ira Dorsey aka “Bootleg” and Raheem Peterson aka “Shoestring”. Their name comes from Dayton Street, the Flint street they spent time on during their youth. Dorsey will be providing chicken for the dinner on Sunday and will be helping at the event.
“Sundays used to be family time at grandma’s house for dinner. Nowadays, there are so many broken families, so most people don’t have that experience anymore. We like to think of the Flint City Pop Up Help Tent as that family time. Our Family, Our Community!” said Earl.
Donations of packaged food and cash are welcome the day of the event starting at 4:30 p.m. at the tent’s locations. Items being accepted including juice, Capri Sun, canned pop, bottled water, granola bars, fruit snacks, bagged chips, fruit cups, pudding cups, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrushes, deodorant, feminine products, toothpaste and toilet paper.
“I believe that giving back to those in need is the responsibility of us all. If you want to be a part of something rewarding please come out and show your support by dropping off donations starting at 4:30 p.m. Every little bit helps and will be a blessing to those at the event,” said Dorsey.
