AmeriCorps Position Openings

Flint Community School Corps, a local AmeriCorps service program is recruiting at this moment in order to have the support we need at 13 different Community Education sites in Flint. The pandemic has created many challenges for families and students but we are working to fight back by providing students with Student Success Coordinators and placing one Community Resource Developer at each school.

Crim Fitness Foundation – Flint Community School Corps

Community Resource Developer – AmeriCorps VISTA

– Position –

The Community Resource Developer AmeriCorps VISTA position focuses on community partnerships, volunteer engagement, and developing resources for the community education initiative. VISTA’s ultimate goal is to eradicate poverty through capacity building.

– Duties –

Partnerships: Build up existing partnerships between community organizations and Flint Community Schools (FCS). Create new partnerships between nonprofit organizations, local businesses, social services and FCS. Create a succession packet including all information of new and existing partners.

Volunteers: Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to serve with community education in FCS. Partner to develop at least one day of service events.

Resources: Collaborate with other members to implement fun, safe, quality and educational programming and activities that support students and their families and help meet the goals of the Community Education Initiative. Build materials and resources that promote Community Education programming. Write approved grants and collect donations to build capacity for Community Education programming.

Report Data: Input Community Education data showing adherence to program grant guidelines.

– Benefits –

  • Biweekly living allowance, $13,490.00 per year
  • Up to $6,200.00 for higher education or federal student loans
  • VISTA healthcare and childcare if needed
  • Network with over a hundred local AmeriCorps members and numerous local professionals

– Hours –

– Not to exceed 1 year of service (can reapply at the end of service year)

– 35 Hours a week

– 20 days Personal Time Off

– Monday through Friday 9am – 5pm

– Serve remotely during current COVID-19 guidelines

– Education –

– High school diploma or GED required

– Some college preferred

– Experience –

– Google Suite and Microsoft Suite proficiency required

– Volunteer experience prefered

– Marketing or event planning experience prefered

Position Types: Full-time, Temporary

Student Success Coordinator – AmeriCorps State

– Position –

The Student Success Coordinator role focuses on administering during and after-school interventions, specifically Success Mentoring. Community Education’s Success Mentoring is academic and emotional support as well as post-secondary school readiness. Student Success Coordinators ensure that students are successfully completing each grade, graduating from 12th grade on time, and are prepared for the post-secondary options. Members serve alongside teachers, school administrators, and other National Service members to implement academic enrichment.

– Duties –

Success Mentoring: Meet with a caseload of students individually or in groups 2-3 times a week.

Create Success Mentoring Intervention Plans: Create a plan for each student in the Success Mentoring program by identifying goals and activities that work to achieve those goals.

Build Trust Among Chronically Absent Students: Create a safe and nurturing environment for students who are struggling to connect regularly during required school hours.

Student Success Based Training: Attend approved training and conduct research on ways to best provide mentorship in a way that is trauma informed. Build an understanding of generational poverty as it relates to Flint. Use training to create Success Mentoring Intervention Plans.

Report Data: Input Community Education data showing adherence to program grant guidelines.

– Benefits –

  • Biweekly living allowance, $3,777.00 per year (Program year ends July 31, 2021)
  • Up to $1,500.00 for higher education or federal student loans
  • Network with over a hundred local AmeriCorps members and numerous local professionals

– Hours –

– 900 hours to complete by July 31, 2021

– Monday through Friday, must schedule at least 20 hours a week from 8am-5pm

– Serve remotely during current COVID-19 guidelines

– Education –

– High school diploma or GED required

– Experience –

– Google Suite and Microsoft Suite proficiency required

– Volunteer experience prefered

– Childcare experience prefered
