Crim and Up2Us Sports to Host Training for Coaches, Teachers and Community
(FLINT, MI) – The Crim Fitness Foundation and Up2Us Sports, a national organization dedicated to improving the lives of youth through sports, are partnering to host a Coaches Training focused on Sports-Based Youth Development from 9am to 4pm Saturday, June 11 at Holmes STEM Academy, 6602 Oxley Dr. in Flint.
Sports play a vital role in a child’s development. Participation in sports has been linked to increased self confidence, higher academic performance, increased attendance rates and increased likelihood of physical activity as an adult. For residents in the City of Flint, sports are a great way to help children increase their physical activity, which has been recommended by experts in the medical community, along with a healthy diet, as one way to mitigate the impact of lead exposure in children. Sports also provides positive mentors for student athletes.
“A great coach makes all the difference. A coach who knows how to successfully integrate youth development skills into their coaching practice can really maximize all the benefits from physical to mental that we know are already linked to sports. We are excited to be able to bring this training to our coaches and teachers in the Flint community,” said Sandra Sellers, Crim Fitness Foundation Program Director.
The training is free to Flint Community School staff, Flint’s Community Education Sports coaches, Summer Running Club captains and Girls on the Run Mid-Michigan coaches. Registration costs $60 for all others. Lunch will be provided. It will include lessons on the five pillars of sports based youth development, strategies for building strong relationships with kids, how to create a team culture, how to manage challenging behavior and more.
All participants will receive lunch and the Up2Us Coach Playbook, an 85-page guide to integrating sports-based youth development into coaching.
