MCC Cosmetology Students to Help Get the Lead Out – of Hair
(FLINT, Mich. April 4, 2016) — The Mott Community College Cosmetology program has been chosen to participate in a free community service project to offer Malibu Clarifying treatments to residents of Flint. Cosmetology students, under the supervision of instructors Carol Nielsen, Korri Stimac and Lisa Birchmeier, will offer the treatments free of charge on Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Advanced Cosmetology Lab in the Visual Arts and Design Center on MCC’s main campus in Flint.
Clients will need to book their appointment by stopping by the Transitions Salon on the main campus in Flint April 6, 7, or 8 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. to pick up a scheduled appointment ticket at the reception desk. The appointment times for April 9 will be 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m.. You must have an appointment ticket to receive the free service.
Malibu treatments remove product buildup and minerals, such as lead, copper, and iron. It is a professional product that uses no chemicals and is mixed with water. Students will shampoo clients, apply the Malibu clarifying treatment, place clients under a dryer or heat cap for approximately 20 minutes, rinse, shampoo, and apply a special Malibu conditioner. The process will take approximately one hour. Students will dry their hair, but will not style their hair do to the limited time.
The Malibu company has donated the Malibu treatments and conditioners.
Clients will receive tickets that have an MCC photo release statement printed on them. The clients will be asked to sign the ticket and a model release from Malibu as well. Malibu has asked for before and after pictures of the back of clients head to show how the product worked on their hair.
