City Of Flint Will Host Special Input Session for New Business Licensing Ordinance
Flint, Michigan – March 12, 2015 – The City of Flint is holding a special input session to discuss the development of a new business licensing ordinance. City of Flint entrepreneurs and business representatives are encouraged to participate and provide feedback before the City moves further in the ordinance process. The event will be held on Tuesday, March 17th in the Oak Business Center, at 2712 Saginaw Street. Registration and sign-in begin at 7:30 am and the event will begin promptly at 8 am.
“We need to make our city more attractive to businesses and create an environment that is both welcoming and easy to navigate, the changes being discussed in this new ordinance will help address shortcomings in our current system,” said Mayor Dayne Walling. “This input session will allow the City of Flint to gather the considerations of our local businesses and develop more efficient ways to work together.”
The input session is meant to aid in the City’s goal of streamlining the business establishment process in Flint. “Before the City moves further along this path, we want to engage the community and get their feedback on this new system,” said Megan Hunter, Director of Planning and Development. “This restructuring will allow us to provide the community with a one-stop-shop for licensing, permitting, and inspections.” The new ordinance being considered would: significantly reduce the number of business categories; create one central point of service for all licensing, permitting and inspections; establish the ability to get licenses online; and enhance communication between the City and businesses.
All businesses would be required to get a license, with General Business licensing being free for the first year under the new ordinance. The City also plans on adding convenience by creating an online portal for licensing and permitting in the future. Media availability with Mayor Dayne Walling and Director of Planning and Development Megan Hunter will be made for 7:45am, ahead of the session’s start.
