2022 Genesee Health Plan-Health Heritage Essay Contest

Good afternoon,

My name is Shannon Ciszek, Communications Coordinator for Genesee Health Plan in Flint, Michigan. Genesee Health Plan (GHP) is a non-profit organization that has provided health care coverage to the uninsured and underinsured residents of Genesee County for the last 20 years.

I am reaching out to you in regards to helping us promote awareness about our 2022 Health Heritage Essay Contest which is open to Genesee County students in grades 5-12, including homeschooled, private schooled and virtual/distance learning. First and second place prizes will be awarded in each grade category per the attached flyer. Teachers are also welcome to encourage the most students for the chance to win prizes too! This year, we are asking students to write about COVID-19 and its impact on them and their family, their health history and plans for their present and future health.

Additionally, the National Center for African American Health Consciousnesses, is sponsoring a contest for parents/guardians to get involved and encourage their student to submit an essay while also getting the conversation about their family health history started and continuing the conversation. It is our hope that you find this information newsworthy and can help promote it by sharing it with your networks, colleagues, and friends.

I have attached the contest press release and flyer for your review and consideration. If you would like to have a call to discuss further, please let me know as I can be reached by email or directly by phone at 989-737-7323. Thank you for the opportunity to review this information and hopefully partner to help us promote the contest to the youth in Flint and Genesee County. I look forward to hearing from you!
