The Flint Concert Band is the oldest community band in Flint, founded in 1948 by Gerret Ebmeyer and a group of other local musicians. The group played for 20 years at the Flint Central High School Auditorium. It currently performs about 6 or 7 concerts at various venues per year including Whiting Auditorium, civic affairs and celebrations for the City of Flint, local high schools and churches, and many senior citizen complexes. The Band’s current conductor is Bruce Nieuwenhuis. Mr. Nieuwenhuis is a retired Band Director from Swartz Creek High School. In addition to the Flint Concert Band, he conducts the Fenton First Presbyterian Church Choirs, the Genesee Wind Symphony and the Genesee Valley Concert Band.
