The newest addition to Sloan Museum’s automotive collection will be on display during Auto Fair at Buick Gallery. On October 12, 2016, the museum picked up a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette, bringing the total number of vehicles in the automotive collection to 103. 1963 marked the first major redesign of “America’s Sports Car” and the new Corvette (assembled in St. Louis) was smaller, lower, lighter, and more aggressive, featuring a Flint-built 340 horsepower, 327 cid V-8 and a 4-speed transmission. 1963 also marked the first year a Corvette coupe was available, and the only year for the “split rear window” that has become the Stingray’s hallmark.
Awards for 2017 will include Best GM-original, Best GM-modified, Best Ford-original, Best Ford-modified, Best Mopar-original, Best Mopar-modified, Best RatRod, Best Truck, Best Lowrider, Best Foreign, Best Orphan, Best Youth-Owned, Best Woman-Owned, Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Engine, Best Millennium (2000 or newer), 3 Military Awards, and the Top 25. In addition, there will be awards for One Fine Ride (Judges’ Choice), the Best of Show Original-Restored, the Best of Show Original, the Best of Show-Modified, and the Executive Director’s award for Best of Show.
