City of Flint Master Plan Implementation Task Group to Install Rain Garden on Saturday June 27, 2015 from 9:00am-1:00pm
Flint, Michigan – June 24, 2015 – The City of Flint Department of Planning and Development has been working for the past year with seven master plan task groups working towards implementing different strategies outlined in the Imagine Flint Master Plan. Members of one of the groups, the Infrastructure & Community Facilities task group, have spent their time developing a plan to install a rain garden on a vacant lot in Flint. That project is being completed on the City’s east side at 2920 Lewis St. The public is invited to take part in the installation of the rain garden from 9:00am-1:00pm on Saturday, June 27.
Flint’s Master Plan calls for increased awareness of water conservation options; this project is an effort to do just that. The task group intends to install the rain garden and have it serve as a demonstration project for the larger community. In order to do so they have prepared a “how to” guide outlining the steps, planning process, materials, local resources and challenges.
The hope is that community members and neighborhood groups will be able to visit the site and use the guide to replicate similar rain gardens in other areas of the City. “Depending on size and scale, the project cost for materials can be nominal and worth the effort and time given the benefit to the neighborhood,” said Senior City Planner Kevin Schronce.
Light refreshments will be made available at Saturday’s event. For any questions regarding the project or other implementation task groups, please contact Kevin Schronce (810) 766-7426 ext. 3028 or kschronce@cityofflint.com. Flint Master Plan can be viewed in its entirety at www.imagineflint.com.
